V8 Registry Newsletter - May, 2023
V-8 Registry Members,
You will need to excuse me for not sending a newsletter out earlier regarding the the upcoming CORSA International Convention scheduled a month from now in Wisconsin Dells, WI at the Chula Vista Resort from June 19-24, 2023. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing a spinal issue since early March when I slipped on a step and basically whipped lashed my neck. I'm expecting some relief this week when I receive a Cortisone injection in my neck and I get started on physical therapy. I expect to be at the convention, but planned activities by the V-8 Registry may be somewhat limited this year.
If you plan to attend the convention, I would like to hear from you. Very few replies have been received so far. You are welcome to call, text or email me with your intentions. Hotel reservations can still be made by calling the hotel directly at 844-240-4922. Use Booking Code: i79431 to receive the $129 per night rate. We have posted more details about the convention on the V-8 Registry Forum. If the host hotel is full, many hotels are available in the immediate area.
You DO NOT need to be a member of CORSA to attend our Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 22 or to be a spectator at the autocross on Friday, June 23. If you wish to attend the welcome party, tech sessions, tours, indoor swap meet and awards banquet, CORSA membership and convention registration is required. ANNUAL MEETING
Our Annual Meeting will be held in Hotel Conference Room 'I' from 8-9 PM Thursday, June 22. During the meeting the People's Choice Award will be presented. Door prizes will be handed out to members. We have shirts, license plates, coffee mugs, window stickers and a few jackets. After our meeting, we will meet in the parking lot for some refreshments and snacks.
AUTOCROSS
The autocross is an all day event on Friday, June 23 starting at 7:30 AM with car tech inspections. The autocross is scheduled in the Adventures Lot from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Bring a chair and your sun screen. We will provide members with refreshments during the day. We are hoping for a good turn out of members to enter their conversions in the autocross. As an incentive we are offering the Ted Trevor Award to the V-8 Conversion turning in the best time of day in either class SM2 or SC1. As an a added incentive, there is a $100 prize to the winner of the Ted Trevor Award. It gets better. If a V-8 Conversion achieves the best time of day for all cars entered in the autocross, then another $100 award will be presented. Potentially, a V-8 Conversion can win the Don Yenko Award, the Ted Trevor Award and $200. Cory Black has previously won the autocross and taken all the awards and money. His car will not be there this year; so consider signing up.
DRIVE AND RIDE ALONGS
It has been suggested by Rich Deiter that we offer rides to those who have never had the opportunity to experience the thrill of riding in a V-8 Conversion. If you would like to take a member for a cruise in your conversion or allow another Corvair enthusiasts to drive your car, we are hoping to make this happen during the day on Thursday, June 22. Our plan is to try to corral all the V-8 Registry members cars together in the parking lot. We will post signs indicating where we will gather together.
If you want to take a ride or drive a conversion, send me a note. If you are willing to allow others to ride or drive your conversion, send me a note. We have never offered rides or drives, but for someone considering the purchase of a conversion, this will be a super opportunity to get 'hooked' on wanting a Corvair Conversion. Most of us remember well the first time we got behind the wheel of a V-8 powered Corvair. There's nothing quite like it. Hopefully some of our members will consider making a ride or drive available.
2023 RED T-SHIRTS
We trust that everyone who ordered a t-shirt for 2023 received it. Please let me know if anyone had a problem.
WRAP UP
Well, I think that about covers the important topics for this issue. Again I look forward to hearing from you if you plan to attend the convention. If you want a ride in a V-8 powered Corvair or you are willing to provide rides, let me know.
Until the next time, GO FAST, BUT STAY SAFE
