Bruce VanHaren - Green Bay, Wisconsin
1968 500 - 63,000 one owner miles. Installing a 2001 LS1 small block Chevrolet engine with 42LE Chrysler automatic transaxle (same as a Prowler). Adaptor is from A&E Manufactoring in Texas. Built a new rear frame while modifying the suspension. Mounting the radiator in front of the engne and pulling air from under the car with 2 electric fans. Installing an in-tank fuel pump. Starting out with the drum brakes but will change to discs.
I have all the help I need for the mechanical part but am still looking for help with all the electronics for the motor and trans. I want it functioning as a automatic. I was working with a guy out of California, but he just dropped off the map. He started me down this path because he has used it 3 times already.

As of February 20, 2013 - Work has stopped on the project until spring. Next step is the wiring for the LS1 and a stand alone controller for the trans. Then the new fuel tank with the in-tank fuel pump. Hope is to drive it next summer for some testing at least.

November, 2016 Update -
I got the 42LE automatic transaxle programmed this spring and have been driving it. I used a controller from PCS. I am working on the cooling system right now. It will run cool up to 45 mph. After that the temp runs high. Adding 2 fans at the back the engine bay to pull air through. I used an aluminum radiator and 2 fans in front of the motor and pull from under the car below the seats. The engine bay is sealed and insulated. This makes it very comfortable to drive.
I installed Speed Hut gauges in a Corsa dash panel with a GPS speedometer. This winter will be new CV joint axles from a VW Bus, front & rear QA1 coil over shocks and disc brakes. I have been trying different ideas for interior design |
