Bill Andrews V8 Monza - Saraland, Alabama
This car was built by Mike Hawke. After he passed away, his wife kept it a few years then sold it. I am believed to be the 3rd owner since. The small Block Chevy 400 cu in engine it had in it was tired and I managed to end its life. Broken valve springs (2), bent push rod and valve stem, etc. on drivers side. Noticed the same thing about to happen on the passenger side. Installed aluminum heads and checked everything else - but failed to burp the radiator - got REALLY HOT! and shut down within 1 mile. Took it apart and found several cam lobes rounded, the crankshaft had been turned already and cylinders had been bored - finally put it to rest. Now has a 383 cu inch small block Chevy crate engine rated at 434 hp. It has a Wills 4-speed transmission and shifter kit. I have a set of 3:08 gears and plan to rebuild the rear end over the winter. I drive it every chance I get - cruise-ins, shows, club meetings, etc. Have a set of 3:08 gears and plan to rebuild the rear end over the winter.
