V-8 Registry Newsletter, Volume 9, Number 2
Registry Members,
It's the middle of March 2021 and it's been a year since the Virus Pandemic was declared. Although the lock down continues, there appears to be some indication that our country and the world are moving back towards the normal that we are accustomed to. Let's at least hope so.
Traditionally, this is the time of the year when the V-8 Registry changes the password for our Internet site. To date 185 members renewed their memberships along with a number of new members. Interest in Corvair Conversion is greater than ever and we continue to see new members signing up with conversions never before seen by our members. At the same time, it's exciting to report that a number of members are building new conversions with high profile features. As these builds are completed, you will be alerted as to where you can view them. Starting today at 3:00 PM EDT, the new password for 2021 is: kelmark
We are sending out a BIG Thank You to all our members who have stuck with us and renewed their memberships through 2021 and many through 2022.
MEMBER FOUND
In the last newsletter we reported that we were trying to locate Charlie Friend. Charlie is the guy who lived previously in New Mexico and set speed records in open road racing. He has been clocked at 205 MPH in a Corvair. You can view his personal page to see his car and pictures of one crash that most people would not have survived. A letter sent to Charlie's old address was forwarded to his new address in Nevada. He has retired his race car from competition and at the age of 79, he now competes in somewhat slower (150 MPH) races in his Cadillac CTS-V. Like many of us, Charlie is slowing down a little as age settles in. We wish him continued success and a safe ride.
NEW OFFICER POSITIONS
Your V-8 Registry officers are looking for some help from the membership. As our group grows in size, the work load has increased and we could use a little help. Rick Andersen our VP and Webmaster would like to separate the VP duties from his title since most of his time is devoted to updating the our website and Forum. If a current member would like to take a more active role in our group, here's your chance. The job description for the Vice-President duties is under review. Call either Rick at 253-961-5003 (CA) or myself at 502-649-3290 (KY) to discuss your interest and the requirements.
The second position under consideration is titled Facebook Editor. Facebook is a popular medium for many members and more exposure on this social media platform can bring more attention to our group and interest in Corvair Conversions. We are looking for that one member who uses Facebook frequently and would be willing to update the V-8 Registry Facebook page with information of interest to the general public who are not familiar with our cars or purpose. If interested, contact either Rick or myself at the numbers listed above.
CORSA MINI-CONVENTION
CORSA has announced that the national convention schedule for late July in San Diego has been permanently cancelled. The Mini-Convention scheduled for May 19-23 in Springfield, IL at the Corvair Museum is still on schedule. At this time the events planned are still being developed. Our plan is to have some special activity for our members in attendance, but the dates and time are still under consideration. We are not sure if our Annual Meeting will be held during the Mini or not. We'll let you know. The autocross has been scheduled for Saturday, May 22, but it appears that this will not be a 'full blown' autocross like the ones at recent conventions. As a result, we may or may not be awarding the Ted Trevor Award for this event. Stay tuned for future updates. If you plan to attend the Mini, consider calling the Crowne Plaza Springfield at 1-800-227-6963 to make your reservations. Let the person know that you are with the Corvair Society of America (code C9S) for the discounted room rate. The last day to make reservation and receive the discounted rate is 4-18-2021. More information will follow as we make plans.
