V-8 Registry Members,
With fall weather upon us, many of us are starting to think about the holidays and those of us living in the northern climates are preparing our cars for winter storage. It's that time of year when I wonder why I didn't move south years ago. Now, at almost 80, the idea of packing up and moving south doesn't sound so enticing. Here's hoping that everyone is well and stays that way through the coming months.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS
It's also that time of year when we start our membership renewal season. It's been several years for many of you since we asked you to renew your membership. The Covid Pandemic interrupted many of our favorite events, but the atmosphere is changing back to a more favorable situation and our special 2 year renewal is coming to an end. To get you spirits in a positive mode, we have decided to return to our Basic and Deluxe membership categories, but at a lower price. Just when you thought everything in life was becoming more expensive, we are going in the opposite direction. For 2023 Basic Membership will be $10 and Deluxe Membership will be $20. With Deluxe Membership you will receive a Corvette Red t-shirt with yellow silk screening on the back side and that includes postage and handling. Basic Membership doesn't include any perks. Here's the catch. When you submit your renewal form, we are requiring that you submit one picture of yourself at the bottom of the membership form. Your payment will be returned if a picture is not included. If you have a problem uploading pictures, then mail your check with a photo in the envelope. You are also encouraged to submit new pictures of your conversion or recent updates. You may have noticed that many members have submitted pictures of themselves and Rick Andersen our Webmaster has posted those pictures on the opening view of your Personal Page. We believe that by posting your picture we make this a more personal group. When you attend an event, it makes it easier to recognize another member.
Here's the plan. Members signing up for Deluxe Membership have until January 15, 2023 to submit their renewal forms and indicate what size shirt they want. At that time we will place a shirt order with Star Silkscreen. Your shirt will be mailed to you sometime near the end of March. After January 15th, no additional orders will be accepted for a red shirt. Members can also order shirts from our current inventory by visiting our online store. Our standard ash colored shirt can be purchased for $25. I repeat, the deadline is January 15 for Deluxe Membership with a shirt. The membership fee for members outside the USA is $10 more due to the cost of postage to mail a shirt.
If you joined the V-8 Registry after June 30, 2022, your membership was 'comped' for the remainder of 2022 and your fee is applied to your 2023 membership. You do not need to complete another membership form or send a payment.
POPULAR CONVERSIONS
Although there are always a number of Crown, Kelmark and Toro conversions for sale at any one time, it's quite interesting to note that Corvair Conversions seem to be as popular as ever. There are numerous conversions under construction at this time. The most popular design involves the C5 Corvette differential, but also quite popular are those conversions under construction with an LS4 transverse mounted engine. As of this writing one member is also building a electric conversions utilizing a Tesla drivetrain and battery.
If you are thinking about building a C5 Conversion, you should consider reviewing the difficulty of this fabrication with some of the members who have already completed and road tested their cars. Here are the names of a few members who have experience with C5 transplant. Check out the personal pages of the following members and consider calling a few before you start. Here's a partial list of names: Mark Allen, Rob Andersen, Paul Beck, John Black, Bob Depalo, Archibald Evans, James Hart, Don Kosanka, Mike Levine, Tony Martin, Louis Pinard, Dave Poortinga, Chuck Rust, Gerald Whitworth and Chris Wills. This is by no means a complete list of names, but some of these members have the ability to supply parts, pictures and detailed drawings of their projects. ANNUAL MEETING
The V-8 Registry held it's 2022 Annual Meeting during the Corsa Convention in Peachtree City, GA at the home of Cory and Yulia Black. A Zoom connection was available to all members thanks to Cory and John, his father. The Black's offered us some true Southern Hospitality with their meeting location and food. We owe them a warm thank you for opening up their home to us. The minutes of our meeting are available on the V-8 Registry website. It's not too soon to start thinking about the Annual meeting for 2023. The meeting will be held during the CORSA Convention scheduled June 19-24 at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Mark your calendar if you plan to attend and we will provide more details closer to convention time.
AUTOCROSS AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
For those that attended the autocross held on Friday during the CORSA Convention, it was a memorable event. Many took the opportunity to drive their Corvairs around the speedway. It was truly exciting to ride on a high banked track. It was one of those things in life that you won't forget.
This year only three V-8 conversions participated in the autocross. Cars owned by John Black, JB Granger and Jim Weaver ran the well laid out course. John Black's son Cory drove his father's conversion and won Best Time Of Day. For his effort he won the Don Yenko Award, the Ted Trevor Award plus $200 in award money from the V-8 Registry.
FACEBOOK UPDATE
Under the direction of Adam Knoll as Moderator, the V-8 Registry Facebook page has taken leaps forward. The word is getting around and more members are posting information and comments. We experienced a slow start, but now the page is quickly expanding. If you would like to see what's being said on the V-8 Registry Group page, logon to your account or that of a friend and click on the 'Search' feature. Type in the name: V8 Registry. This will take you to the page headed by a burgundy red Corsa coupe. Let us know what you think.
FORUM
The V-8 Registry offers a fantastic website for members to interact with each other regarding their conversions. For many this may offer more opportunities than Facebook. You can post information about cars or parts that you want to sell. You can place a notice for parts or cars that you want to buy. There's information about upcoming and previous events. If you have a question about something you are building, you can post a question to members for their advice. If you have a fix to a problem that others might like to see, you can share that on the Forum. There's 19 Topics to cover almost any subject. If you forgot your username and password, you can contact Rick Andersen to refresh your memory. For those that have never signed up, you can either register yourself with a username and password or you can contact Rick and he will assign you a logon. Try the Forum. LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD PEOPLE
As previously mentioned, the V-8 Registry officers have been at their post now for over 10 years. Although we are still willing and capable of performing our duties, we are thinking that it's necessary to start planning for the future. There are 3 positions, President, Webmaster/VP and Treasurer. With over 200 active members, we feel like there are a number of capable members out there who have the interest and ability to step into one of these positions. It will require a little of your time, but none of these are difficult positions to step into. We are here to help.
