V-8 Registry Newsletter, Volume 8, Number 1 - January, 2020
Registry Members,
A belated Merry Christmas to all our members and their families. Our wish for 2020 is good health and prosperity to all. Although we don't like to be reminded, many of us our starting to show a little age and we don't maneuver as well or remember things like we once did. I know that this is the case with me. Fortunately, these Corvairs that we drive and race help to keep us young in spirit. It works for me, I hope it's working for you too.
2020 RENEWALS
In mid-November you received a newsletter with information on 2020 renewals. To date only 75 members have sent in their renewals. That's about 40% of our 2019 membership. The renewal period is still open, but closes on Sunday, January 26th. This newsletter has been sent to everyone including those already renewed for 2020. If you have already renewed since mid-November, DO NOT renew again. If you can't remember, send me a short email to refresh your memory.
With your Deluxe 2020 renewal, the Registry is offering our members an extra incentive to renew early. Instead of a t-shirt, the Registry is offering our members a sharp looking nylon windbreaker jacket with an embroidered logo on the front. Jackets are offered at no increase in price. If you prefer a t-shirt or the Registry license plate instead, those items are available at the same price until January 26th. After that date, t-shirts increase to $20 and jackets can be back-ordered for $35. Here's the link to the membership form:
https://www.v8registry.com/2020-membership-or-renewal.html
For those interested in t-shirts, sign up for Basic Membership and use this link to place your shirt order:
https://www.v8registry.com/registry-t-shirt--jacket-order.html
Jackets ordered after the deadline will be back-ordered until we receive enough orders to embroider jackets in groups of 12 or more. This could cause a delay well into May. For this reason, avoid a delay and renew today.
We are still requesting that you send a photo of yourself or your car when you renew. Rick Andersen will continue to post pictures to your personal page as time permits. Sometimes he gets backed up due to the volume. We are posting pictures of members to help us recognize each other at events.
PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP
Last year the Corvair Performance Group did not host its traditional workshop in March. Then at the last minute Allan Lacki assembled a group of speakers and an excellent workshop was held at the Corvair Museum in Decatur, IL last April. Tracy LeVeque doesn't have time to organize a workshop for March. Hopefully someone else will step up to organize an event. Stay tuned.
2020 CORSA CONVENTION IN SAN DIEGO
As previously reported the V-8 Registry is planning for some special events during the Corvair convention in San Diego from July 6-11. The host hotel is the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Call 619-297-1101 for reservations. The group code is "CNC" to qualify for the discounted rate.
The Registry will host a party for its members and details will be announced closer to convention time. We are expecting up to 20 V-8 Conversion at the convention and anticipate that most will participate in the Friday autocross. The autocross is scheduled at the old San Diego Qualcomm Stadium (SDCCU). I have already talked to the autocross chairman and he promises a course layout that will excite our group's drivers as well as the spectators. The local SCCA is in charge of the layout and timing.
If you live in Southern California and your conversion is not quite ready for show and competition, you are encouraged to finish your build and make plans to show it off this summer to the Corvair World. In addition to trophies, the Registry will be offering cash awards up to $200.
The V-8 Registry will also hold its Annual Meeting during the convention. Details will be announced when the schedule is prepared. We anticipate that the San Diego convention could easily attract more V-8 owners than any convention recently held. If you plan to attend, go to the Registry Forum and indicate your plans. Here's the link: https://v8registryforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=623
Send me an email or text if you plan to attend. We need to know how many to plan for. My number is 502-649-3290 and my email is [email protected]
EMAILING OFFICERS
If you have an unusual email address that doesn't include your name, do the officers a favor when you send us an email. Sign your full name at the end of the email. When we respond, we can avoid looking through 200+ email addresses to see who sent the note. Thanks for your help in this matter.
FINAL REMINDER
Renew your 2020 membership today. Include your picture and one of your conversion. If you have ideas or suggestions for improving the Registry contact an officer.
