Robert Brownell, Jr - Laramie, Wyoming
Sold - Bob has sold this car to David Baeckelandt - Continue down the page to see his new project.
I have had my '66 for 40 years. Rescued it from the crusher in 1976. It has been an ever evolving project ever since. It started as a Toro conversion I built when I was 20 years old. Since then it has become a –sort of Crown conversion using the modified 66 trans axle. The frame, coil over suspension, etc are all home made. 4 wheel, 13” Wilwood brakes. As you know there is nothing off the rack for an engine cover. No Summit or Jegs, you have to build it yourself or make it fit. I went with a Carbon fiber engine cover. It has a 383 small block that makes 500 hp.
It is on Utube - Bob Brownell Corvair. It is fast and reliable. Living in Wyoming every trip is a road trip. I have about 40,000 on it in this current configuration. Just got back from a trip in Colorado. 1000 miles in 5 days just cruising around. 13000 ft mountain passes and it runs like a charm.
I have run the 66 at open track days at Road America and Blackhawk farms. I have hit 160 on Road Americas front straight. I used to Late model stock car race so I do like to go fast.
