V8 Registry Newsletter, Volume 10, Number 3 - May, 2022
V-8 Registry Members,
The CORSA International Corvair Convention takes place in about 7 weeks. The event is scheduled in Peachtree City, GA 30269 at the Crown Plaza, 201 Aberdeen Pkwy from Tuesday, July 12 through Saturday July 16. A block of rooms are available until June 10. Call 1-770-487-2666 or 855-680-3239 for reservations. The room rate is $119 per night plus tax. Provide GROUP NAME: CORSA and GROUP CODE TU5 for the discounted rate. Once they fill up, you can contact the Hilton Garden Inn just across the street for rooms. The website is: https://2022corsaconvention.com
If you plan to attend the convention and the V-8 Registry Annual Meeting, we need to know. Please call, text or email me to confirm your plans to attend. Your regrets are not needed, just your plans to attend. Our Annual Meeting is listed on the official convention schedule for Thursday, July 14th at 7:00 PM in the Auditorium. We DO NOT plan to use that venue. Instead, we are having a party and meeting at Cory Black's home in Fayetteville, GA about a 115-minute drive from the hotel. His address is 153 Brogdon Road, 30214. Maps will be made available at the convention. The plan is meet in the parking lot near the main hotel entrance at 5:30 PM on July 14th and drive in a caravan to Cory's home. Cory's home is located on a flat 2 acre lot; so parking in the lawn is permitted unless the ground is soft from rain. If you saw the movie, 'My Cousin Vinny' you know what I'm referring to as it relates to Red Georgia Clay. Cory has an air conditioned garage for hosting the event depending on the number present. He will provide food and drinks for everyone, but we need a headcount for proper planning. We will conduct our Annual Meeting during the event and will award the People's Choice Award for favorite V-8 Conversion at the convention. Door prizes will also be given out during our event. These include jackets, shirts, license plates and coffee mugs. We look forward to a fun filled evening
On Friday, July 15th, the main event for the day will be the CORSA Autocross scheduled at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. This track should peak the interest of our members signing up to show what their V-8 conversions are capable of. Spectators always enjoy watching our members compete. For the second time only, we will be awarding the Ted Trevor Award to the member who wins FTD (Fastest Time of Day) in either Class SM-2 or SC-1. The award will include a special trophy and a check for $100. If that same car wins FTD for the entire autocross event, that driver will receive another $100 prize. That feat was last accomplished by Cory Black at the St. Charles Convention in 2019.
FACEBOOK UPDATE
Adam Knoll offered to moderate the V-8 Registry Facebook Group and we appreciate his input. We encourage members who enjoy Facebook to do a search under the heading V8 Registry.. We are listed as: Group by V8 Registry. This is a Public Group. Many of you also visit a site under the name V8 Vairs. This is a Private Group not associated with the V-8 Registry, but used by many of our members. We encourage you to use our official page to post your comments and pictures. This is what the page looks like: While viewing the screen we invite you to click on the tab in blue marked 'Join Group'.
Of course, we also encourage our members to use the V-8 Registry Forum for specific V-8 Registry information. You can enter the Forum from the V-8 Registry 'HOME' page or use:
https://v8registryforum.com/
The Forum has multiple topics that you can click on for information, advice, comments, car parts, cars for sale or to ask a question. This website is underutilized by the membership and we encourage your participation. Once you become accustomed to it, navigation becomes quick and easy for posting information and pictures. If you don't remember your username and password, you can contact Rick Andersen. If you have never registered, you can click on 'Register' at the top of the screen and sign up with your own username and password. Check it out.
CONVERSIONS FOR SALE
With spring comes thoughts about updating your Corvair Conversion or possibly buying a different one. Some of our members are still looking for the 'right' car. Currently I have a list of conversions that are for sale. If you are interested in buying or selling, contact me. Maybe that right car is on my list.
YOUR PICTURE AND CAR DETAILS
When you view our website, you may have noticed that pictures of members are increasing in number on the Personal Pages. You are encouraged to send Rick Andersen a recent picture of yourself and pictures of your updated conversion. Rick will add them to your Personal Page. A picture makes it easier to recognize another member at one of our group events. Use the 'Contact Us' tab on the 'HOME' page to upload your picture, your car updates and a narrative to describe any recent pictures. As you check out other member's Personal Pages, you can see for yourself what Rick can do with the information that you supply. For example, take a look at Tony Martin's personal page. Your Personal Page can have a similar look.
Until the next time, GO FAST, BUT STAY SAFE.
