Kevin Baxter, '65 Crown V8 - Quartz Hill, California
'65 Crown with Stock 300 hp 350 cu in Chevy, Cidco 1, 4-speed transmission, positraction rear end with 3:08 gear ratio and Bob Coffin's bushing mod and assembly of Crown components. Virtually all parts necessary to complete the project are in my possession. Car is waiting patiently for assembly and EXERCISE!
I first heard of Crown Corvair (any Corvair at ALL, really) when my buddy traded his canyon-carver cafe bike for one back in '81. He installed a Grumpy Jenkins' cross-bolted 327 with ported Brodix heads and a ridiculous cam. The car was somewhat boggish out of the corners compared to the 350 engine it came with, but once on the rev, it really came alive! My friend was psycho and kept his foot into it deep. I thought for sure I had met my end in that *$@!& thing more than once! Good fun, if not a bit crazy.
January, 2015 Update - Have most everything to put together the classic Crown Corv-8. Still very interested in a big-car Saginaw/C5 set up, however.
