V-8 Registry Newsletter, Volume 8, Number 3 - May, 2020

Registry Members,

Little did we know in mid-March just how chaotic life could become in this world only a short time later. On March 15 you received a Registry newsletter indicating that the San Diego CORSA Convention was still a 'go' for July 6-11. Once the Feds shut down the country to handle the Wuhan Virus Crisis, everything changed. For those still out of touch with society, the 2020 CORSA Convention has been postponed until 2021. The new dates are July 27-31, 2021 in San Diego. This is an unusually sad and disappointing situation because the 2020 convention had all the markings of an historic event for Corvair Conversion owners. The San Diego Corvair Club went out of its way to welcome our group and our cars to an event tailored for the high performance segment of the Corvair World. They went out of their way to make us feel like honored guest rather than the black sheep or Corvair butchers that we usually feel like at a convention. The list of cars and members attending was unprecedented. Now we can only hope that through Divine Intervention, we can assemble the same cast of characters in 2021.We promise to try.

CORSA MINI-CONVENTION
The Registry is also disappointed to report that the mini-convention scheduled for June 17-20 in Springfield, IL has also been postponed. The new dates are May 19-22, 2021. The V-8 Registry plans to host some activities for our members who are unable to attend the San Diego Convention in late July of 2021.

NEW WEBSITE FEATURES
The V-8 Registry website has a new look. Rick Andersen, our Webmaster and VP has spent considerable time during this 'home incarceration' to make some changes to the website that make it easier to navigate. Check it our for yourself. You will now notice that there is a 'TABLE OF CONTENTS' at the top of the HOME page. This tab replaces the 'FIND IT' tab and greatly improves navigating the website. This was a time consuming project; so thank Rick the next time that you have a chance. At the same time, we invite you offer your comments and suggestions for improving the V-8 Registry website. You may contact Rick directly at rick@friendlychevrolet.us with your ideas. All members are asked to check their personal page for errors. If you find an error, contact Rick Andersen so he can make a correction. With so many members, it's nearly impossible for the officers to catch every error and sometimes for unknown reasons pictures show up on the wrong personal page. Your assistance is requested.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
To make the website even better and to acquaint our membership with each other, a few new rules have been initiated. New members are required to submit at least one picture of their conversion and one of themselves when signing up for membership. If the new member doesn't own a Corvair Conversion, we are still requesting one picture of the new member. At the same time we are asking current members to submit a picture of themselves for inclusion on their personal page. We believe that by adding a picture, members will find it easier to identify one another at events. Many of you have submitted pictures of yourself and we appreciate your effort. If you haven't submitted recent updates of your conversion, now is a great time to do so while our lives are still on hold. Remember, any narrative that you submit with the pictures of your car will be cut and pasted along side your pictures. When submitting pictures and descriptions use this link: https://www.v8registry.com/contact-us.html

BUYING AND SELLING CONVERSIONS
After helping some new members find a conversion and assisting others with selling their rides, I have learned a lot about Corvair Conversions over the past 8 years. I keep a running list of conversions that are available for sale and I also keep a running list of members looking for cars and what their requirements include. It's very rewarding to mate a member up with a new ride and at this point, I believe that I have gained a knack for matching members up with a suitable conversion. So, if you are looking for something new or different, give me a call, text or send an email.

Whenever a member or a non-member has a car to sell, it is posted on the REGISTRY FORUM. This is a great place to view cars and parts that are for sale. The FORUM seems to be overlooked by members, but it's an excellent resource to supplement the Registry Website. This is the place where members can communicate with each other on a common conversion problem. The FORUM is also an excellent place to post an ad for parts that you want to buy or sell. In addition, it's a good place to submit a question about a problem you have encountered with your car or to post a solution to problem solved that may benefit another member. Take a shot at using our FORUM. If you can't remember your username or password, Rick Andersen can assist you. Here's a quick link:  https://v8registryforum.com/

NEW MILESTONE
During this last week of  May a new milestone was reached. The V-8 Registry now has 201 active members for 2020. Our members range in age from 18 to 84. Members are still uncovering Crown and Kelmark conversions from barns, garages and sheds. Others are updating the drive trains on existing conversions. The most popular update is to a C5 differential. The second most popular update involves mounting an LS4 drive train from a late model Pontiac GP (W-Body) transversely in a Vair. Check out the ride of Jaime Gonzalez as a good example: https://www.v8registry.com/jaime-gonzalez---alta-loma-california.html

Until the next time, drive fast, but safe.

John Lanning, President

When submitting pictures and descriptions use this link:
