July, 2019 Annual Meeting Minutes
V-8 REGISTRY ANNUAL MEETING, ST. CHARLES, IL CONVENTION, JULY 25, 2019
The Annual Meeting of the V-8 Registry was held during the CORSA International Convention in St. Charles, IL. The meeting was held in the New Orleans Room of Pheasant Run Resort on Thursday, July 25, 2019. At 8:10 PM, Chairman John Lanning called the meeting to order. Twenty-five members and ten guests were in attendance based on the sign-in sheet. No CORSA Officers or Directors were present. The Chairman introduced Paul Beck, the Treasurer and Russ Brandenburg, the group's Founder and Past-Chairman. Russ Brandenburg addressed the group with information about this being the 25th Anniversary of the Registry. Russ reviewed the history of the group with information that he has stored in a 4-drawer file cabinet.
Minutes from the 2018 meeting were posted on the Registry website and were approved without additions or corrections. Paul Beck, the Treasurer, submitted a Financial Statement for the previous 12 months ending June 30, 2019. A total balance in the bank account of $3,595.19 was reported by Mr. Beck. Copies were made available and the report was approved. A copy of the report will be submitted for viewing on the Registry website.
OLD BUSINESS
The Chairman reviewed the awards for the 2019 convention. The Perpetual Ted Trevor Award will permanently reside with Howard Trevor after receiving it in 2018. CORSA agreed during the winter to offer a new Ted Trevor Award at the Annual Awards Banquet. The Registry pays for the award and presents it. This award is presented to the Corvair Conversion in Classes SM-2 and SC-1 with the lowest ET for the autocross.
A change in the People's Choice Award was also announced. Starting in 2019, the Registry members will vote during the annual meeting for the car of their choice. In the past, all convention attendees could vote and deposit their ballots in a special ballot box on display in the Hospitality Suite. Very few ballots were submitted in the past; so the decision was made to ask members to vote during this meeting. Russ Brandenburg counted the ballots submitted and John Black was awarded the People's Choice Award for 2019 with a plaque and a check for $75. Future presentations of this award will follow this procedure.
John reported that Registry merchandise is available for sale. He has ash colored shirts available as a convention special for $17. Registry Magnetic Signs are also available for $20 a pair and License Plates for $10. Suggestions on the 2020 shirt color were requested from the membership.
The Chairman asked for a show of hands by members who use the Registry Forum. Many hands went up. Members were encouraged to communicate with other members by using this resource for cars, parts, information, advice and opinions. John also encouraged members to use the 'SEARCH' feature to quickly find information posted on the website. It's a time saving tool.
All members requesting an I D Tag have received them if their conversions are at least 80% completed. Tags were issued only to members supplying a VIN and at least one picture. Tags are still available to members. To date, 144 tags have been issued. Members were encouraged to attach their tags quickly. Lost or misplaced tags will be replaced, but a $40 fee will be charged to replace it.
John reported again this year that no action has been taken on writing by-laws for our group. It was proposed in 2016 that a method for election of Registry officers be submitted. In the meantime, the current officers have agreed to continue in their listed positions and the members unanimously voted with a show of hands to continue with the same officers.
It was announced that the new V-8 Registry banner is on display in the MEGA Center.
NEW BUSINESS
There are no scheduled racing events planned for Registry members during the balance of 2019. The autocross on Friday is the official event. Members were encouraged to bring their chairs and cheer on our participating members. Members were asked to consider entering their local SCCA events to showcase their cars to other enthusiasts and to consider supporting NECC events when possible.
Members were asked to include their name on emails and text messages when communicating with an officer.
A number of new members took advantage of Rich Deiter's 'Ride Along' idea this year. Hopefully a test ride or drive in a member's car will provide new members with ideas for their own build or purchase.
It was announced that David Baeckelandt made a donation for $100 to the Registry. David was thanked for his contribution. The money will be used to fund future parties.
An Instructional Guide for Electric Power Steering was completed by a Registry EPS Committee. The guide took 10 drafts to complete and is now available on the V-8 Registry site. Committee members Mark Allen, Paul Beck, Bob Depalo, Guy Desjardins, Jay Maechtlen and Ethan Schoonover were thanked for their effort.
With no further business to transact the meeting adjourned at 8:50PM and a party followed at Portillo's. Minutes of the meeting will be submitted to CORSA.
Respectfully Submitted,
John A. Lanning, President
