V-8 Registry Newsletter, Volume 12, Issue 4
V-8 Registry Members,
The V-8 Registry, just who are we? Have you asked yourself that question or have others? Well, it's a reasonable question. Who are we?
To begin with we are a Special Interest Group associated with The Corvair Society of America (CORSA). We are listed as Chapter 006. Like CORSA we have members scattered around the globe with about 200+ active members and a lot more inactive members. Two members live in Australia and 20+ in Canada. We have inactive members in Germany and Switzerland. From an age standpoint we have members from 25 to 85. One or two members are older than 85. This is not just a 'guy thing'. Our group has 4 female members. Two drive and maintain their conversions. In my conversations with members I have found that our group is composed of members with a wide range of skills related to design, engineering, fabrication, machining, welding and general mechanics. Many of our members have the skills to do all their own car building while a smaller group have enough mechanical skills to keep their 'rides' on the road, but don't have the technical skills to build a conversion although they often add personalized enhancements. A few of our members are avid race car enthusiasts and drive competitively in their region while most are content to show up at car shows a few times during the season. Others enjoy driving their conversions around town attracting an occasional encounter with an unsuspecting muscle car that winds up embarrassed by an 'old car' they know little about.
Most of our members are content with membership in this Internet group and are happy to view their Corvair and others on the Roster page of the website. They also enjoy surfing around the website for historical information or checking out the Facebook page and the V-8 Registry FORUM. A smaller group of our members meet up annually in various locations around the USA. We gather at regional events like the Corvair Performance Workshop, the CORSA Convention, the Great Fan Belt Toss and events hosted by our V-8 Registry Sub-Chapters located in AZ, CA and OR. Sub-Chapters have been formed in areas of the country where at least 7 members live within an hours drive of each other. We continue to evaluate the location of members and will assist with the formation of new sub-chapters.
RENEWAL TIME IS HERE
Now you have a better idea of who the V-8 Registry is. Here's hoping that you are interested enough to renew your membership for 2025. Membership is annual and matches with the calendar year; so your membership expires at the end of this December unless you joined after June 30th. In that case you receive 'complimentary' membership for the remainder of the year and your payment is applied to the next calendar year. You can view the membership policy at: https://www.v8registry.com/member-policy.html
If you are unsure about your membership status you can view the Roster page on the V-8 Registry website to see your current membership status. Use the c5diff password to enter the secure website page. Choose 'MEMBERS ONLY AREA' at the top of the HOME page. From the drop down choices, click on REGISTRY ROSTER. Enter the password and then scroll down to your name. Your current membership status is listed under your email address. Remember if you double click on the posted picture, you can view additional pictures and narrative about members if they submitted additional content.
Membership renewals start now and will continue until January 15, 2025. Annual dues are still $10.00. Don't try to pay for more than one year. We require that you complete the membership form which all 3 officers receive and use for their records. Here's the link to the membership form:
https://www.v8registry.com/membership-application.html
Fill in the required fields and choose your form of payment. Members without cars are still eligible to sign up as 'PHOTO MEMBERS'. We are not trying to bar you from membership. If that was so, then I wouldn't be eligible for membership either. I don't currently have a Corvair Conversion.
NEW ON-LINE STORE
As promised at the Annual Meeting in Dayton last July, the V-8 Registry now has a new on-line store for merchandise. Chuck Rust, a loyal Honorary Member, provided shirts and jackets for many years until he recently retired. We truly appreciate his dedication and products. A company named Fully Promoted and located near me in Middletown, KY has been chosen to provide shirts, caps, jackets and sweatshirts starting immediately. Just click on ORDER T-SHIRT HERE at the top of the HOME page and you will be directed to the on-line store. Fully Promoted will imprint your merchandise and mail it directly to you within 12-15 business days. That's much faster than we were previously processing orders. Let me know if you are satisfied with the quality, pricing and delivery.
V-8 REGISTRY FORUM ISSUES
Our FORUM has come under attack by cyber bandits. Rick Andersen our Webmaster has beefed up security with our Internet provider, but these bandits continue to challenge us. Therefore, if you have a problem using your logon to access the FORUM, we are recommending that you contact Rick by email at:
[email protected]
He will assign you a username and password for accessing our FORUM. I encourage everyone to utilize this valuable resource. The topics listed on the FORUM have very useful information provided by our members. Try it out and see for yourself. This is a secure method for posting information that you only want members to see without jeopardizing your personal data. Our FACEBOOK page can be viewed by the entire world. Our FORUM can easily be accessed from the HOME page of the V-8 Registry website. Simply click on the heading 'ENTER THE V8 REGISTRY FORUM'.
2025 CORSA CONVENTION
The 2025 CORSA International Convention is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20 to Friday, May 23 in Santa Maria, CA. This is the first California convention in 17 years. We will post additional information about the convention on our FORUM under UP COMING EVENTS and in future newsletters. The Radisson Hotel at the Santa Maria Airport is the host hotel. Room rates are only $119.00 per night, a real bargain. For hotel reservations call 1-805-928-8000 and mention " Corvair Convention 2025" to get the special rate. Convention registration is not open until after the first of the new year.
During the convention, the V-8 Registry is hosting a technical session on electric power steering. Ken Rosenbusch the owner of ePowerSteering.com. will make a presentation on this topic. The V-8 Registry wrote a installation guide several years ago based on the ePowerSteering kit. That guide can be viewed at:
https://www.v8registry.com/v8-registry-blog/corvair-electric-power-steering-installation
Numerous V-8 Registry members have installed this kit in their conversions and the convention organizers would like to have a car on display during the technical session to demo the installation. If you have this kit installed in your Vair and are attending the convention, call me at 502-649-3290. We would like to display one or more cars with the ePowerSteering installation during the technical session..
LOOKING FOR ADVICE
We have a member who asked permission from the owner to store a historic Corvair Conversion to protect it from further deterioration. This member did not receive any documentation with his offer. The owner died unexpectedly and the member wants to title this car in his name with the goal of donating it to the Corvair Museum in Springfield, IL. The car was originally titled in New Jersey. Does anyone know how this member can legally title this car into their name? If so, please contact me with detailed instructions. The member is 85 and in bad health. I'm afraid that this Corvair could wind up in a salvage yard if anything happens to him. Any advice is appreciated.
CONVERSIONS FOR SALE
If you are looking to buy or sell a V-8 Conversion, I maintain a spreadsheet with available cars. Contact me and I will send you a copy or add your Corvair to the list. This list has resulted in the sale on numerous conversions to new owners. The FORUM is another site for finding cars and parts to buy or sell.
Until the next time, GO FAST, BUT STAY SAFE.
