V-8 Registry Members,
Website Password
It's Saturday, March 15th and it's that time of the year when we change the V8Registry.com website password. We are using this password again in commemoration of our Founder Russ Brandenburg. As in the past we ask that you not share this password with non-members. Our website contains secure information about our members and we don't want this information available outside of our group. Please treat this password like the one associated with your bank account. The new password is now in effect.
RENEWALS
We thank you for your decision to renew again for 2025. As of this date we have 150 active members. We lost one member, Kerry Owens, who passed away July 28, 2024 and several members sold their conversions. When time permits I will attempt to call the inactive members and inquire about their health and car status. As we often expect, some will probably sign up late.
2025 CORSA CONVENTION If you plan to attend the convention this May in San Luis Obispo, CA the event is quickly approaching. The convention dates are Tuesday, May 20 to Friday, May 23, 2025. The Host Hotel is the Embassy Suites, but all the rooms are reserved. Two additional hotels have been added with blocks of rooms. The Best Western San Luis Obispo at 214 Madonna Road has rooms with king or two queen for $129/ night plus taxes. Call 805-544-4410 for reservations and mention CORSA Convention for the discount. This block of rooms is available until April 30th. The other hotel is the Springhill Suites San Luis Obispo at 701 Froom Ranch Way. King for $144/night or two queen for $154/night plus taxes. Block of rooms available until April 18th. Call 888-236-2427 for reservations and mention CORSA Convention for the discount.
If you plan to attend events and competitions during the convention you are required to be a current CORSA member and to make convention reservations. Current CORSA members can log onto the CORSA website at www.corvair.org and complete the convention registration form on line. Non members can become members for 6 months at a SPECIAL rate of $20. Go to the CORSA website. Select CORSA eMember to join at the special 6 month rate. Once you have become a member you can register for the convention from the same site.
Due to personal obligations, I will not be attending the convention this year. Much anxiety and thought has been associated with this decision. Fortunately one of our well known members will serve as Acting Chairman in my absence. Chuck Rust has graciously offered to chair the V-8 Registry meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 21st at 7:30 PM in the Los Osos Room of the Embassy Suites. Chuck will also award the Ted Trevor Award at the CORSA Awards Banquet scheduled for Friday, May 23rd at 5:30 PM in Ball Room of the Embassy Suites. This Autocross Award for "Fastest Time of the Day" goes to the driver of a Corvair bodied car with a water-cooled engine. The winner must be a current V-8 Registry Member. The People's Choice Award will be presented at the V-8 Registry Annual Meeting.
During the convention on Wednesday, Ken Rosenbusch, President of ePowerSteering.com will be the speaker for the Technical Session on electric power steering in a Corvair. Guy Desgardins and Paul Strohl will have their Corvairs on display outside the conference room to demonstrate the installation in their conversions. The V-8 Registry website also has the complete guide for installing the ePowerSteering kit in a Corvair. Here's the link: https://www.v8registry.com/apps/search?q=power+steering
CROWN PARTS NEEDED
Several members are looking for Crown parts. If you have a complete Crown Kit or a pair of Crown Headers send me an email, text or call me. Include your asking price and condition.
Cars and parts that are for sale can be viewed on the spreadsheet that I keep. If you would like a copy, contact me.
CORVAIR PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP
A Performance Workshop was hastily organized and held at Pittsburgh International Raceway on February 28 and March 1st. Notice was sent to all members located in OH, NY, NJ, PA and WV. If you attended the event, I invite you to call me and let me know some details about the workshop.
NEW V-8 REGISTRY ENGINE EMBLEM
The V-8 Registry is evaluating the idea of introducing a new merchandise item to our on-line store. The logo on the front of your V-8 Registry t-shirts and jackets was originally introduced as the official logo some years ago. The logo was derived from a V-8 emblem introduced by Chrysler for the 64-66 Barracuda and other models. We adopted the logo for ourselves, but we altered the colors on the logo to suit our taste. Paul Strohl has a pair of these emblems on his beautiful Crown Conversion. I invite you view them on the V-8 Registry Roster Page. Our plan is to reverse the colors on the emblem when our vendor offers us a price for making a suitable quantity. The design will be priced with adhesive on the back side instead of two mounting pins. We believe that most members would rather not drill any additional holes in their front fenders.
If you think this is a good idea and would be interested in purchasing a pair, at a reasonable price, send me your thoughts and suggestions.
WEBSITE RECONSTRUCTED
In January at the peak of the renewal season our website was down for about two weeks. Rick Andersen our Webmaster and VP elected to 'bite the bullet' and rebuild the site. Our site is back up and running and we have made some improvements. Members often ask about using credit cards rather than PayPal. You can now use credit cards and Venmo in addition to a check or Paypal. We hope that this addition makes your renewal easier in the future.
ON-LINE STORE UPGRADED
Have you viewed our on-line merchandise store recently? We are now using a new vendor. The link on our site now moves you directly to their website. It's easy to view and place an order with quick delivery. In addition to t-shirts, you can now order caps, jackets, sweatshirts and long sleeve shirts in three colors, all at reasonable prices. Here's the link: https://www.v8registry.com/order-t-shirts-here.html Numerous members report that buying merchandise was easy and quick.
Some merchandise items are still available by contacting me directly. I still stock license plates, embroidered jacket patches, magnetic signs and window stickers. If these items are of interest call me for pricing and availability.
Until the next time, GO FAST, BUT STAY SAFE!
